CLEVELAND — Cavaliers rookie forward Cheap Dylan Windler Jersey broke his left hand in the season opener, another unlucky medical setback for the promising player.

The team said Thursday that Windler suffered a fourth metacarpal fracture (on his ring finger) when he took a hard fall in the third quarter against the Charlotte Hornets. X-rays after the game were negative, but further tests revealed the fracture.

Windler, who missed last season with a lower leg stress fracture he sustained before preseason training camp, will be reevaluated in a week. The team said only that he will begin a rehab program and did not provide any timeline for his return.

It’s an unfortunate development for Windler, the former Belmont star taken with the No. 26 pick in 2019. Cleveland has high hopes for the 6-foot-6 shooter and exercised the third-year option on his contract before the opener.

Windler was making a strong move to the basket and was in the air when he was hit by Charlotte’s Gordon Hayward and crashed in the foul lane. Cavs center Javale McGee covered his head after seeing Windler go down.

Windler scored three points in nine minutes before getting hurt.

The Cavs held on to beat the Hornets 121-114. They play at Detroit on Saturday before hosting the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.

If this season, guised as evaluation, is actually a ‘stealth tank’…the Bulls aren’t really getting that ‘stealth’ part right.

In the season opener at home (at least no fans to boo and a ‘Fire AdvisorPax!’ chant?) the Bulls got punched in the mouth early and then repeatedly were metaphorically slugged in the face in a truly dismal 124-104 loss that was about five times worse than that score indicates.

It was just an abhorrent first half to open the year, where the Hawks got to 83 points (!) by shooting 66% or over for both quarters, including going 16/19 in the paint. The Bulls were terrible in nearly all aspects of the defense: they were losing guys over screens, not helping at the rim, and in transition were especially abysmal.

There were a lot of standouts for Atlanta, but as expected it was Trae Young leading the way: both in showing his patented ridiculous range but also baiting several fouls and setting up a couple massive John Collins lobs.

Meanwhile very little went right for the Bulls. Cheap Coby White Jersey and Cheap Wendell Carter Jersey were both terrible and continued to show a lack of cohesion that was also exhibited preseason. I don’t know how many turnovers they technically combined for in the half but let’s conservatively guess a million:

In that first half, which is even stretching to call ‘competitive portion of the game’, there were very few positives. Cheap Patrick Williams Jersey started and showed some flashes of what he can maybe bring to the next great Bulls team (in the 2029-30 season?). Cheap Zach LaVine Jersey had 17, but it was mostly just getting his own shots (no fault of his there, it was all they could do) and he picked up 4 fouls. Markkanen shot 4-5 from three to get 16 at half himself, but was awful in all other aspects of the game.

The first half was landmarked at a play with a few minutes remaining, where Coby White thought a rebound was going to go out of bounds only to see Young snatch it up and hit a three. Then LaVine picked up his 4th foul on offense followed by another Young three to push the Bulls deficit to 28. Thankfully even with 3 minutes remaining it did not get worse as they went in down merely 24.

It could’ve been worse, as with some lineups out there it really highlighted the failings of the Bulls offseason: with Cheap Tomas Satoransky Jersey unavailable it meant lots (more than zero) of minutes for Arcidiacono, for a minute there was a lineup of Arch/Williams/Hutch/OPJ/Hutchison/Gafford (starkly against a Hawks lineup with 4 shooters), plus we actually saw Cheap Adam Mokoka Jersey enter as the Bulls 10th player in the first quarter.

Then the 3rd quarter opened up worse:

Young had an and-1 floater into WCJ
LaVine had a foul drawn overturned to get called on him
A Trae lob to Collins
LaVine stepped out of bounds for another turnover
LaVine leaves the game with the fouls, and you hear the words…”as Mokoka is guarding Trae Young” when as Young draws 3 FTs about forty feet from the basket.
(no Satorasky but also no Temple and Valentine. But Mokoka didn’t play much preseason either. So maybe fire Billy Donovan? At least I wasn’t waiting with baited breath for him to say something stupid post-game)

The Hawks lead swelled to 40 midway through the third, and at that point LaVine’s foul trouble didn’t really matter as he was put back in to look fairly miserable in garbage time. He finished with 22 points but was 1-9 from three. Markkanen only had 5 in the second half to finish with 21. Williams was statistically their best offensive player with 16 on 5-11 shooting, playing a team-high 33 minutes.

For the Hawks, Young cruised to 37 in only 26 minutes of action. They had 6 other guys in double-figures. They were totally dominant tonight.

And that was with several key defensive pieces out of this game. This was looking like perhaps a win and the Bulls went down 40 damned points. Hopefully it provided a lot of evaluation.

There’s a multimillion-dollar question looming over the NBA that only Cheap Giannis Antetokounmpo Jersey has the answer to.

However, the Bucks superstar didn’t put to bed any speculation on his long-term future in Milwaukee on Wednesday, instead saying that he will put faith in his agent and the team’s front office to reach a potential supermax contract extension.

“I’m not focused on that,” Antetokounmpo said. “I know my agent, Alex [Saratsis], and [Bucks general manager] Jon Horst and the Bucks ownership are focusing on those discussions, but I’m just trying to focus on myself — how I can get better, how I can help my teammates get better, how can we be ready Saturday to play our first preseason game?”

Antetokounmpo has until Dec. 21 to sign a five-year, $228 million supermax extension.

On Wednesday, he wouldn’t go into the details of his process, though he admitted that “it’s probably one of the big decisions that I’m gonna make.” He could play out the season in Milwaukee and enter free agency as an unrestricted free agent next summer, or he could sign the same deal with the Bucks next offseason.

One thing is for sure: His communication with his agent will remain private.

“I think about everything,” he said. “I think about Milwaukee. I think about my teammates. I think about my family. I think about what’s the best decision for me, but that’s pretty much it. Then, after that, I realize that I’ve got so far because I’ve focused on how I can improve every single day.

“I love the city of Milwaukee. I love the organization. I love my family to death. I love winning, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t be in this situation if I wasn’t working hard, I wasn’t winning games, I wasn’t improving every day and I didn’t have this mentality.

“So I can’t change who I am, I cannot change this mentality, and I’m gonna focus on improving, and day by day, everything’s gonna take care of itself. You guys probably are gonna know what’s going on before I do. That’s what usually happens. You guys know more than me.”

On Sunday, Antetokounmpo celebrated his 26th birthday as the Bucks began group workouts, with teammates surprising him with pens — indirectly suggesting the decision they want him to reach.

“At first, I didn’t get it. Khris [Middleton] came in and gave me a pen, and I was like, ‘Whoa, what is this?’ I was looking at it and thinking about it, and then I realized that he wanted me to sign the contract,” said Antetokounmpo, who is coming off a season in which he joined Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players in league history to win MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season. “And it was just like, ‘OK.’ I laughed the first time, I laughed the second time, the third time, and then I got, like, 20 pens. So then it got a little bit old. I’ve got 20 pens in my locker room.”

Entering the 2019-20 season, Antetokounmpo also avoided all free-agency talk on Media Day, calling it “disrespectful toward my teammates talking about my free agency and what I’m going through.” His approach wasn’t much different Wednesday, as he said he’d rather keep all questions basketball-related moving forward because “the answer is still going to be the same.”

“I’m not trying to speed up the process. I’m not trying to be involved in that,” Antetokounmpo said. “Obviously, it’s something that stresses every player out, and it’s on my mind, but it’s not on my mind. I try to put it out of my mind.”

Despite having the NBA’s best regular-season record the past two years, Milwaukee has yet to reach the NBA Finals since the 1973-74 campaign. The Bucks added a new cast of players in recent weeks, acquiring former All-Star point guard Cheap Jrue Holiday Jersey via trade and adding Cheap Torrey Craig Jersey, Cheap D.J. Augustin Jersey, Cheap Bryn Forbes Jersey and Cheap Bobby Portis Jersey. They’re also bringing back all-NBA Defensive Second Team center Cheap Brook Lopez Jersey with guards Cheap Pat Connaughton Jersey and Cheap Donte DiVincenzo Jersey, who likely will be part of the starting five in his third season.

“All the guys we got, they can help the team,” Antetokounmpo said. “They can defend, but having Holiday on the team is big-time. He’s a great leader, he’s a great human being, he can defend, he can score the ball. He’s going to bring that edge on this team that we need.”

Milwaukee was eliminated by the Miami Heat in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals in the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida. This season, Antetokounmpo won’t put any additional pressure on himself or the team.

“I don’t believe it’s a championship-or-bust situation,” Antetokounmpo said. “Obviously, everybody wants to win a championship. I want to win a championship. There’s nobody that wants to win a championship more than me — I can guarantee you that. But there’s steps to that. You’ve got to keep improving. You’ve got to keep getting better, and hopefully we can get there this year.”
